The last night of our trip to Door County we took in a double feature at the Skyway Drive-In. The show started about 9:00pm and we scored a spot in the second row by getting there 40 minutes early.
The first four rows have old fashioned speakers you can hang on your car window, otherwise you're stuck tuning your car radio into the broadcasted AM or FM channel. We tried it both ways and you definitely get better sound quality with your car, but we were worried about draining the battery. Plus, its a more authentic feel listening the old fashioned way.
Pets are allowed and before the show started we walked the perimeter meeting a few other dogs. Porter's eyes in this picture are fixed on the snack bar which was just behind us serving up fresh popcorn. I'm sure the poor guy was salivating at the thought.
The tickets cost $7.50 per person, cash only. We thought the price was reasonable considering we got to see Brave and The Avengers. We brought in our own drinks and snacks in a cooler. Not sure if this is allowed or not, but no one stopped us. Mosquitos weren't too bad but it did get pretty chilly so we wrapped up in our sleeping bags. Mr. P looked pretty comfortable snoozing on his dog bed in the back seat.
The movies finished about 2am which was perfect for me (I was trying to stay up as late as possible considering I had to work the night shift the following evening). G fell asleep about 30 minutes into the second movie. Porter slept through much of both.
When was the last time you saw a movie at a drive-in theatre? Are pets allowed at your local drive-in?
